It was a sensational day for Unicare Health last Friday, hosting nearly a hundred Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Clinical Nurses and other allied health professionals over two seminar sessions at Technology Park Function Centre in Bentley.
Unicare Health’s Occupational Therapist and Product Consultant – Annette Terranova started her session covering basic topics such as pressure injury etiology and practical pressure injury care.
She then took discussions further into pressure management strategies, care plans and the effective use of pressure care products in the treatment and prevention of pressure injuries.
During her presentation, Annette drew on first hand experiences working with attending Occupational Therapists in the room, many of whom had consulted with Annette on previous occasions to help oversee the care of their clients suffering from pressure injuries. Annette discussed how the effective use of pressure care products with these clients had aided in their recovery, giving them back their quality of life.
Annette also discussed the challenges of pressure injury management, noting the lack of knowledge often being the cause of these largely avoidable injuries.
New pressure care products are becoming increasingly sophisticated. If best patient outcomes are to be achieved, being up-to-date with pressure care management strategies and effective use of pressure care product functions is essential.
Stephen Laidlaw from Care of Sweden – manufacturers of world class mattresses for pressure injury prevention and treatment – also joined in the fun and hosted two very interactive sessions on pressure care mattresses and their functions.
Stephen talked about new age pressure care mattress technologies and the range available to suit different clients and their situational needs.
Participants at the seminar left very informed, with 98% of all attendees agreeing that this seminar
– was relevant to them and their role
– taught them new skills/concepts to apply during work and
– has improved their confidence as a healthcare professional
98% of all the participants also suggested that they would like to attend more of Unicare Health’s training sessions.
