Scarborough Beach Pool
Opened on 22 January 2018
Did you know that the long-awaited $26-million Scarborough Beach Pool has finally opened its doors to the public?
Were you one of the 4000 swimmers that took the plunge on its opening day?
Scarborough Beach Pool isn’t just another local swimming pool. It’s a world-class recreation facility that boasts a comprehensive fitness centre and quality eateries to enjoy. It is a new iconic landmark that offers stunning views of the ocean and pools that are geothermally heated to enjoy all year round.
The Scarborough Beach Pool is the first in the state to get a six-star green rating from the Green Building Council of Australia. It offers a main Olympic sized 50m pool, a swim school area, covered spectator seating, shaded sun lounges, changing rooms and quality eateries.
The world-class facility also offers universally accessible toilet facilities and a change room that includes a combined shower and toilet, a wall mounted shower bench, a height adjustable adult-sized changing table, a tracking ceiling hoist system, wall mounted support rails, ample movement space and a safe and clean environment to cater for people with special access needs.
Lack of appropriate toilet facilities is often a major social barrier preventing families and individuals with disabilities from enjoying public recreational opportunities as it limits the places they can go and the time they spend out.
With a fully accessible toilet and change room at Scarborough Beach Pool, people with disabilities and special access needs can now be part of the community’s recreation and sporting life.
Major equipment supplied by Unicare Health for this project include the
Alrick Montar Electric Change Table and the Orbit Ceiling Hoist System.
Unicare Health is very appreciative to have been selected as an equipment provider for the Scarborough Beach Pool accessible change room project, another remarkable initiative by the City of Stirling.
