I would like to thank Unicare for their support both with fundraising and with the loan of a wonderful sports wheelchair to use at the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers held on the 2nd and 3rd of April. The Weekend to End Women’s Cancers™ benefiting Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research was a Weekend to remember those lives lost to breast or gynaecologic cancer and a Weekend to celebrate the lives being saved.
Proceeds from The Weekend will enable Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research to advance its cancer research and fund new research projects, looking for the genetic clues to help prevent and treat cancers such as breast and ovarian cancer.
Participants were encouraged to raise a minimum of $2000 prior to the actual event which included a 60km walk over two days and time to reflect and remember friends lost and celebrate those who have survived. Thanks to the generous donations of many people and organisations including Unicare I was able to help contribute to the $2.3 Million raised.
Unicare also kindly loaned me a lovely, Progeo sports wheelchair to use during the event as I was unable to walk the whole event due to recent bilateral knee surgery. I walked short distances on my crutch, wheeled where I could and was ably assisted by friends and family when there were giant hills or the arms just got a little too tired. The wheelchair was easy to self propel and easy to push and was very much appreciated. Thank you for your generosity and support of both myself and the fundraising efforts to beat Cancer.”.
