Unicare Health conducts a hands-on and interactive product training session for Occupational Therapists from MSWA

On Friday, 3 November 2017, Unicare Health’s product consultant David Westbrook, conducted a hands-on and interactive product training session for Occupational Therapists from MSWA.

MSWA is the leading provider of neurological services in Western Australia. MSWA specialises in supporting people living with over 30 neurological conditions such as MS, Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Huntington’s Disease, acquired Brain Injury, and Motor Neurone Disease.

The Occupational Therapists at MSWA are a lovely professional bunch, dedicated to supporting their clients with maintaining their independence at home and at work, and supporting their valued social roles and recreation interests. They support clients with a range of OT services with many also involved with palliative care.

The equipment that Unicare Health provides to clients through Occupational Therapists from MSWA, can be as simple as a rail to provide stability and enhance safety, through to more complex high-tech equipment to support an individual in his/her daily life.

David Westbrook is Unicare Health’s scripted equipment specialist and works very closely with MSWA’s occupational therapists in getting to know clients on a personal level, understanding what they need, their daily functions and goals, and assists with scripting and modifications of equipment to deliver that optimal solution to suit an individual’s specific needs.

David’s training session covered new products available in the market, different types of high end mobility wheelchairs, bed and pressure care mattress functions and issues relating to custom design and modifications of equipment.

Occupational Therapists from MSWA had a chance to test new equipment from Unicare Health’s showroom and learned about equipment functions to familiarize themselves with the different models that are available and their suitability for different clients.

The lively bunch left the product training session well-informed, with a better understanding of equipment as an essential aid in their client’s everyday life and the importance of their involvement in prescribing equipment for their clients.
