On Tuesday, 8 May 2018, Unicare Health’s product specialist Llew Pollard, conducted an interactive practical training workshop on standing hoists and patient transfers.
Having received years of professional training on manual handling equipment and safe manual handling techniques, Llew is one of Unicare Health’s go to experts for manual handling equipment solutions.
Llew works very closely with therapists and their clients in hospitals and aged care. He enjoys getting to know clients on a personal level, understanding their needs, their daily functions and goals, and assists therapists in prescribing optimal equipment solutions for specific needs.
The goal of Llew’s practical training workshop on the use of standing hoists in patient transfers was to empower Unicare Health staff with the knowledge to achieve optimal patient transfer solutions though the safe and proper use of standing hoists and slings.
Some of the topics covered in Llew’s training workshop included:
- The different types of standing hoists, their unique features and their suitability in meeting different client needs
- Construction materials of the different standing hoists and how they are appropriate in different environments.
- Slings and attachments available to achieve different levels of client support
- How to safely transfer a client using a standing hoist and sling
