What's Happening at Unicare?

As counterfeit N95 respirators continue making their way into the market compromising the safety of anyone who uses them, Unicare Health has been working hard to make TGA-certified PPE available to hospitals, aged care and disability providers

The risks have been verified. Nursing homes in other countries have become the epicentre of COVID-19 deaths. The reality of COVID-19 presenting in a well managed nursing home has recently been highlighted by Anglicare’s Newmarch House nursing home in Sydney’s west. Staff fear the infection and providers have a responsibility of keeping them and their families safe.

COVID-19 fears and news of re-infections around the world continue to cause supply shortages and rise in PPE demand.

Earlier this month, Australian Border Force (ABF) officers intercepted several deliveries of PPE that have been found to be counterfeit or otherwise faulty. Read more

On 16 April, Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) recommended on their website that masks, gloves and gowns intended by the manufacturer for use in an Australian hospital setting should be included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG). It is advised that providers who source PPE supplies to be used in a hospital or clinical setting should bear this in mind. Read more

As WA’s leading hospital and aged care equipment provider, Unicare Health is echoing the responsible message and cautioning healthcare providers and the public about purchasing PPE that may be counterfeit or faulty.

“As the majority of our customers are healthcare workers, we understand the reality of them being exposed to COVID-19 and the need for genuine PPE to protect themselves from infectious illnesses and help stop the spread of disease.”

“In an effort to ensure that the safety of our healthcare workers is not compromised, we have made a huge investment and undertaking to tap into our global supply chain resources to import PPE manufactured in alignment with WA Health specifications. The PPE we supply, such as N95 respirators and 3-ply surgical masks are included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) as Surgical/Medical Respirators and available to healthcare and community providers whose staff have a genuine need to be protected at work.”

The Department of Health and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission should be your primary point of contact for PPE in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Healthcare providers who are challenged in acquiring TGA-certified N95 respirators and 3-ply surgical masks for their staff due to shortages from other suppliers, are welcome to approach Unicare Health as a secondary resource. Please email marketing@unicarehealth.com.au to start a line of communication with us.
