Aussie farmers in NSW are currently suffering the worst drought in 18 years. As the drought wears on, farmers are facing spiralling costs of stock feed and transport, with many in dire straits due to prolonged harsh and dry weather conditions.

Our farmers are crippling under the strain. Creeks and dams have dried out, and pastures turned to rubble. Many farmers have had to significantly de-stock and watch ewes abandon lambs. Sheep and cattle farmers have suffered huge losses and forced to abandon their crops and cut their cattle. In many parts of NSW, farmers are faced with rotting carcasses from dead sheep and cattle left on their land.

Fitting in with our ‘u n i care’ values, Unicare Health has contributed to RRT’s initiative to assist the drought stricken farmers in NSW through #OperationDroughtRelief. A convoy of 23 road trains of hay left Western Australia early this morning in an effort to help drought affected Aussie farmers feed their starving stock.

The 1200 tonnes of hay, totalling 2300 bales, will be enough to feed 1000 cows or 20,000 sheep for 23 weeks.
