Rehacare 2022
The world’s largest Expo for
Rehabilitation, Prevention, Inclusion and Care.
14 – 17 September 2022, Dusseldorf, Germany
What’s new in Assistive Technology?
Where is the global Assistive Technology industry heading?
Is the Australian market ready for some of these innovations?
These were just a few of the many questions our marketing manager, Pearl Chan, went out to answer at Rehacare 2022, the world’s largest Assistive Technology (AT) trade show.
Rehacare 2022
Hosted at Messe Düsseldorf, Rehacare 2022 featured 691 exhibitors from 38 countries, and was attended by more than 35000 people across four days.
Rehacare is the world’s largest expo for rehabilitation, prevention, inclusion and care. The expo brings together the top assistive technology suppliers from around the globe, showcasing world-class innovations and cutting-edge products for the disability and community care markets.
It is THE place to go to discover the latest and greatest in mobility products, pressure care, manual handling equipment, home care products and more.
Always fun when travelling to seek out some friendly Aussie faces, Pearl had an enjoyable time checking out new Sunrise Medical products with Matt Butterworth.
The Sunrise Medical stand was one of the most popular stands at the expo, constantly overrun by visitors eager to discover the newest advancements in wheelchair technology.
Matt gave Pearl a teaser trailer of the latest and greatest mobility releases such as the Gemino Parkinsons Rollator that features adjustable slowdown brakes, a reverse braking system, and a laser line to overcome freezing.
Pearl also had a preview of the soon to be released Quickie Q50R Folding powerchair. Using just one hand, this powerchair folds up in seconds simply by pressing a lever and pushing the backrest forward. The new folding footrest design ensures that the Q50R really does fold down into the most compact package possible and also tucks neatly out of the way for easier, safer transfers in or out.
This new indicator cushion is a brand new assessment tool designed to identify the right cushion for any client. It analyses the client’s peak pressures to indicate which cushion is best-suited for their pressure care and positioning needs.
There was so much to discover and see!
Pearl also had a good time learning about what some other brands in partnership with Unicare Health, like Shoprider, had planned for the future.
Being the market leaders for AT equipment, and the preferred equipment provider to Occupational Therapists (OT) and OT providers across Western Australia, Pearl was also set on discovering where the assistive technology market was heading.
Pearl discovered a strong emphasis on sustainability. There were more products on the market that were made of sustainable materials that were comparable, if not better than carbon fibre, aluminium, and stainless steel.
There was also a lot of emphasis on adding power to manual devices, with numerous engineering-minded vendors working out ways to add power to classic products like Unicare’s Nitro/Viva seat walkers.
Pearl also looked at hundreds of seating options, manual handling products, fall prevention aids and a whole lot more!
Other innovations such as this massive washing machine that can high water pressure clean and disinfect beds, wheelchairs and other bigger pieces of equipment, seemed very promising for Unicare Health’s new equipment cleaning facility.
It was Pearl’s first visit to Germany and a remarkable educational experience, complete with a traditional German Pork Knuckle (Schweinshaxe), German Schnitzel (Schweineschnitzel) and of course …. Bubble Tea!
Her friends at Unicare commented that her meals were bigger than her!
