Seminar: Using Assistive Technology to achieve Independent Living, Rehabilitation and Reablement goals for community clients

Technology Park Function Centre, Bentley
Overwhelmed by the positive feedback from participants at this seminar last year, this is the second time Unicare Health is running this seminar for community therapists and clinicians to review the clinical advantages of equipment range and choice to achieve Independent Living, Rehabilitation and Reablement goals.
“Using Assistive Technology to achieve Independent Living, Rehabilitation and Reablement Goals for community clients” is an educational seminar designed to impart the skills and knowledge necessary for therapists and clinicians to make intelligent equipment prescriptions for community clients.
Therapists and clinicians who missed out on attending last year were first to jump on board, to learn more about equipment functionality and prescribing optimal equipment solutions for their clients.
This seminar was championed by Unicare Health’s clinical educator and trainer, Annette Terranova, who has over 30 years of experience as a clinician and consultant within the aged care sector. Annette is a highly sought after go-to person by therapists working in hospitals, aged care and disability for expert equipment advice.
Annette presented on a range of equipment choice, starting with beds and mattresses to support positive aging.
She then went on to discuss the suitability of toileting and bathroom equipment to suit different client needs and shared with participants the success and failures she has experienced with the way equipment is used in different community settings.
Safe patient transfers and manual handling equipment was a huge topic of interest that Annette addressed, as well as mobility management for home and community access.
Participants were taking notes and listening intently during the seminar and many engaged in active discussion throughout the day.
Guest speakers at this seminar included Stephen Quayle from Shoprider Mobility who came along to share mobility scooter safety updates and Linda Quigley from the former Independent Living Centre who introduced their new business strategy as Indigo and developments in their role to support clinicians and clients in the community.
Unicare Health would like to say thank you to all the community therapists, clinicians, lecturers and healthcare professionals who spent the day with us, reviewing the clinical advantages of equipment range to achieve Independent Living, Rehabilitation and Reablement goals for community clients.
Unicare Health is glad to be leading the way with education to achieve better patient outcomes and happy to be able to facilitate industry collaboration through our events.
