2018 World Wide Pressure Injury Prevention Day
Seminar: Pressure Injury Prevention and Management Strategies – Knowledge is the key!
15 November 2018 | 8.30am to 1.00pm
Technology Park Function Centre
2018 World Wide Pressure Injury Prevention Day saw the unity of over 100 West Australian therapists and healthcare professionals coming together to join Unicare Health in our mission to #stopthepressure through education.
The objective of World Wide Pressure Injury Prevention Day is to increase international awareness for pressure injury prevention.
As pressure injuries are largely avoidable by applying good pressure care management techniques and through intelligent use of pressure care products, early detection can prevent unnecessary pain, suffering and loss of life.
#stopthepressure is an initiative by Unicare Health, launched with a mission to stop pressure injuries from happening in our healthcare industry.
More than 100 pressure care champs working in hospitals, aged care and disability did Western Australia proud on World Wide Pressure Injury Prevention Day, by uniting with Unicare Health and dedicating their day to learning more about pressure injury care and prevention through #stopthepressure.
Our seminar “Pressure Injury Prevention and Management Strategies – Knowledge is the key!” was led by Annette Terranova – Unicare Health’s occupational therapist and trainer and guest speaker Magdalena Love – clinical educator for Permobil Australia.
Magdalena presented a review of the current best evidence in the pathology of pressure injuries and conducted a practical session on ROHO – world’s #1 seating solution for preventing and treating pressure injuries.
Annette presented on the significance of a multi-disciplinary approach to Pressure Injury Prevention and reinforced the message delivered at the recent 20th Annual Meeting of European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel in Rome (EPUAP 2018) – Interdisciplinary teamwork and technological innovations: A winning approach to pressure ulcer management.
Attending therapists and clinical staff championing pressure injury management teams in their workplace and other rehabilitation professionals managing pressure injuries indicated on their attendance forms that this seminar
– was indubitably relevant to them and their role
– taught them new skills/concepts to apply during work and
– has improved their confidence as a healthcare professional
