What's Happening at Unicare?

Unicare Health implements new strategies and directives for the year to deliver personalized and focussed solutions in response to increasing demand from hospital, aged care, disability and community markets.

Corporate Strategy Meeting 2019
Thursday, 3 January 2019
Mandoon Estate, Swan Valley

“To respond effectively to the increased demand for quality hospital, aged care and disability equipment, we have developed a focussed approach to enhance customer relations, assist with new industry challenges and provide a more comprehensive end-to-end equipment solution for our customers. This will enable us to deliver personalized services that will respond to the needs of an individual customer to an entire region of clients.”

Being Focussed is the Key

Being “focussed” is the key in Unicare Health’s journey this year to respond more effectively with solutions that cater to individual customer needs and challenges.

This year will see Unicare Health’s departments focussed and integrated. This will enable all staff to deliver a uniform customer-centred approach when caring for an individual customer to an entire region of clients.

“We are the conduit that matches optimal solutions to specific need. Whether it is an individual customer looking to purchase a wheelchair or a region of aged care service providers caring for their home care package clients in the South West, we aim to deliver all our customers with the optimal solution for their specific need.”

Introducing Focussed Groups

In response to different industry reforms and challenges experienced especially in the aged care and disability sectors, such as the home care packages reform and roll out of national NDIS in WA, four focussed groups have been assigned within the product knowledge and solutions team to deliver products, services and knowledge personalied to the specific needs of the industry.

These focussed groups have been assigned to deliver personalized support to:
1. Hospitals
2. Aged Care Service Providers
3. Disability Service Providers
4. Community – People living at home

Unicare Health Team

“Our employees play a key role in delivering product knowledge and solutions for our customers and therefore we are empowering our frontline staff who are closest to our customers with expert knowledge required to deliver personalized products and services based on a customer’s specific need.”

Focussed groups within the product knowledge and solutions team will be responsible for delivering information and engineering solutions specific to the hospital, aged care, disability and community markets. Client relations managers assigned to these groups will act as physical touch-points to further enhance customer experience.

Delivering Quality Training and Education

Unicare Health has responded to the demand for quality training and education by introducing a new training and education team lead by clinical educator Annette Terranova.

Annette Terranova is an occupational therapist and trainer with over 30 years experience working in healthcare. Annette has worked extensively as a clinician and consultant within the aged care sector and has special interests in manual handling and pressure management. Annette has significant experience in prescribing products for manual handling, seating and positioning, falls prevention, dementia care, mobility and pressure care, and has assisted hundreds of other therapists with prescribing the optimal equipment solution for specific needs.

Annette’s new role as Unicare Health’s clinical educator will include attending world renowned healthcare conferences, speaking at conferences and sharing knowledge of new healthcare practices from her travels with therapists and clinicians in Western Australia through seminars and workshops.

As a value-added service to providers who have chosen Unicare Health as their preferred equipment provider, Annette will also be championing product and safety training and clinical education programmes for therapists, healthcare professionals and carers to increase the standard of professional care delivered in areas such as pressure injury management, falls prevention, safe patient transfers and more. Plans are already in place to extend training and education opportunities to regional partners and WA Country Health.

While assuming her new role, Annette will still be assisting her large following of occupational therapists and other healthcare professionals with equipment consultations, especially with complex client needs on an on-demand basis.

Operation Outreach

The surge in sales experienced in 2018 for quality products in regional areas of Western Australia was a result of successful co-ordination of operations and logistics programmes implemented by Unicare Health Operations.

Regional areas share common traits such as older populations, higher levels of health risks, chronic disease and injury. People living in remote areas generally have less access to health services with shortages to health-related infrastructure and equipment.

To meet the equipment needs of rural health services and the rural community, Operation Outreach will continue to improve distribution channels to ensure products and services are delivered to remote areas more effectively than before.

What This Means For You

“Every change and improvement in our business moves us further away from being a traditional equipment supplier to one that is focussed on building good customer relations and embarking on a long term customer support journey. Our established network puts us in a strong position to deliver solutions that meet our customers needs from end-to-end. Being focussed is the key that will set us apart this year and promote clarity of choice to poise ourselves for another year of growth.”
