Annually, EMWA hosts the largest wound conference worldwide. This year, EMWA featured exhibits from more than 160 leading companies working in wound management and hundreds of educational sessions across various disciplines. EWMA 2019 saw the large-scale gathering of European and International wound management communities with the common goal of improving the care of wound patients.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Person-centred Wound Care. Who is in Charge of the Wound?”

A wound is always part of someone’s body. It is something a person has to live with. The patient has the role of wound healing. Healthcare professionals, with their specific competences, work together with the patient to make progress by developing and sharing clinical knowledge and competences. To support the wound healing process in the most cost effective and effective way, a multidisciplinary interprofessional team and person-centred wound care approach must be adopted.

Unicare Health’s clinical educator and trainer Annette Terranova attended this conference to further pursue her interest and research into pressure injury care and wound management. EMWA gave her the opportunity to learn about the latest research undertaken for wounds arising from pressure injuries and the best clinical practices recommended to care for them. She also had the chance to analyse the emergence of new pressure care equipment on a global scale and learn from new innovations.

Annette will share her new found knowledge, industry updates and best practices to therapists and clinicians in WA through Unicare Health training events later this year.
