Burswood Park
Traditionally springing to life in strong numbers, Have a Go Day 2019 at Burswood Park saw 15,000 seniors making their way around 235 information sites through the day.
Seniors who attended the event participated in a range of activities, from kayaking to rock climbing while taking in the breathtaking sights from the banks of the picturesque swan river.
Bus loads of seniors from around Perth were seen coming to and from the event. A marvellous organizational effort by volunteers from the Seniors Recreation Council and other organizations.
Have A Go Day is one of the largest, oldest and most participated seniors’ community event in Perth. It is ‘the’ annual community event for seniors, featuring age friendly entertainment and a wide range of activities to encourage social inclusion and connect seniors to community clubs, groups and organisations.
The Unicare Health community team had a great time setting up a welcoming display of assistive technology products for seniors wanting to learn more about safe and independent living at home and in the community.
On display were mobility scooters, seat walkers, mobility aids and an array of home care products to promote safe and indepedent living for seniors.
Many enthusaistic seniors took advantage of the opportunity to hop into a mobility scooter, play with tap turners and needle threaders and asked for introduction to products to assist with aging conditions such as arthiritis, dementia and incontinence.
The new Seka mobility scooter by Shoprider gathered a huge amount of interest by seniors looking to upgrade from older Shoprider models. The state president of the Seniors Recreation Council , Hugh Rogers, had an enjoyable time taking it on a ride.
A significant amount of positive feedback was received and lots of seniors were amazed by the number of intelligent assistive products they didn’t know existed.
Unicare Health would like to say a big thank you to Seniors Recreation Council for having us at Perth’s largest outdoor expo for seniors and for giving us the chance to teach seniors how to live independent lives for longer by providing free information and advice about using assistive living aids.
Unicare Health had great fun making new friends at Have a Go Day and enjoyed the time exhibiting alongside friends in aged care such a Bethanie, Juniper and Silverchain.
