Workshop: Wheelchair Adjustments
Understanding Basic Adjustments and Seating System Design

How often do you see a room full of therapists armed with tools?
Driven by the growing demand for customizable standard, lightweight and tilt-in-space manual wheelchairs, this workshop was designed to provide therapists with a more comprehensive understanding of wheelchair seating system design and to become familiar with adjustable wheelchair options.
Leading with our ‘enabling power of applied knowledge‘ and offering the benefit of being ‘the conduit that matches optimal solutions to specific need‘, the purpose of this workshop was to provide therapists with the knowledge and skills that would enable them to make basic backrest, headrest, legrest, footrest and armrest adjustments and subsequently provide their clients with the optimal seating solution for specific needs.
Championed by Unicare Health’s clinical educator and trainer, Annette Terranova, the demand for this education by therapists looking to up-skill, saw this workshop fully booked within a week and attended by over 70 therapists over 2 sessions.
Using Sunrise Medical‘s range of manual wheelchairs, therapists took turns adjusting the seating components on a Breezy BasiX and RubiX, Quickie 2, SR45 and Iris and in the process learned to become more competent prescribers of these seating systems.
Therapists were introduced to the tools they required and worked in groups, taking turns to be therapists and wheelchair users, and had fun exploring wheelchair parts and their adjustability.
Turning wheelchairs upside-down and inside-out, everyone was encouraged to have a go with nuts and bolts, look under seats and get themselves acquainted with adjusting different wheelchair components.
It was a hands-on experience for all and the first time for many!
Thank you
Unicare Health would like to thank everyone who took the time to attend our Wheelchair Adjustments workshop.
We trust that everyone had an enjoyable experience adjusting wheelchair components and, in the process, has developed a more thorough understanding of the wheelchair seating systems to become more knowledgeable prescribers of these products.
Your enthusiasm to upskill and improve your client’s mobility outcomes, and your never ending support for Unicare Health keeps us going. We can’t wait to host more of these workshops for you!
